A real world sound is never alone – there are always ambient sounds that makes it sound real. But then also the surrounding reflections of the sound events. Natural echoes and reverb from all around you are key for the immersive experience. And when they all add up – the brain confirms that you are there. Spatial queues like volume, frequency balance and time differences are critical for the brain to process the sound and interpret it as a sound from the real world. The challenge is to record the direct sound as well as the ambient sounds keeping the integrity of volume, frequency and time differences for all directions – making it possible to play back accuratly…..
